[english version below pictures]

So you had enough of Paris or Rome and looking for something else? Here’s a different form of tourism , of special places with something different which not many people get to see. First destination Chernobyl and the alienation zone.

The incindent from 1986 is well known to the world , shortly after the explosion of the reactor a 30 km perimeter zone was established and all the population inside was evacuated , leaving all they’re belongings except for what they can carry with they’re hands. Almost 25 years later the zone remains unpopulated because of the radiation level, becoming a unnatural reserve where nature reclaimed the land and cities where time stood still.

Today there are special travel agencies ( a simple google search with the words Chernobyl tours) which organize tours inside the zone , prices vary between 150 to 450 USD , depending on how big the group is and you’re preferences of hotel and transport. These agencies make sure you will come back healthy and arrange the necessary authorizations , visas for Ukraine and if you want also booking of hotel and flights to Ukraine.

Among the “attractions” of the zone there is the Chernobyl nuclear plant with it’s massive cement sarcophagus that covers the blown reactor , the nearby city of Pripyat (also featured in Stalker) , a city which used to house 50,000 souls , a soviet preserved city with a central square , fun fair, a hotel from the top of wich the view of the abandoned city still gives shivers , the vehicle graveyard of ships , tanks , helicopters , fire-engines , police cars all abandoned in working condition by the URSS during the cleanup operation because of the high doses of absorbed radiation.
