[English version]
From a simple trip to the mountains we ended up with an excellent trip in Budapest and Vienna, we opted for the bus since it was included in the accommodation package, a package from Eurolines (TUI travel ), but after traveling so long with a bus i promised myself i will never do it again ,it is simply an unbearable experience of traveling with all our Romanian compatriots who drank alcohol and screamed all the trip , if you can afford an airplane ticket it is worth the trip , cutting the journey time to 2-3 hours instead of a bad 23 hours journey by bus or coach.
Budapest, a city divided by the Danube into Buda and Pest is surprisingly beautiful and civilized by standards comparable with older siblings such as Vienna, Munich, Prague. It has a little bit of everything to offer , from the medieval fortress located high above the city near Imperial Palace of Buda , near the bastion of fishermen you can enjoy the city in all its beauty , walking on the old bridges across the Danube (see the Chain Bridge) and enjoying the city “new” city of Pest , with it’s Austrian-style architecture , with beautiful boulevards and squares. I recommend a visit to Stephen’s Basilica, the view from the top of the tower is incredible , a stop at the parliament building – if you have an EU passport you will have free entry and tour, take a walk along Adrássy Avenue , which ends in the beautiful Heroes Square and a beautiful park which hosts the Hunyadi Castle (it’s a replica after the original medieval one in Hunedoara built by the Hunyads) and take a ride on the Milenium metro , built in 1896, the second oldest after London. Another pleasant surprise was the M2 line, which goes under the Danube which is very deep and provides an interesting view when going down in the refurbished stations. Also recommend a visit to one of the many beautiful food markets in the center which are a true delight, grab a strand of paprika specific to Hungary. Hungarians are hospitable, help you out with anything, are used to tourists so they speak English, they have absolutely nothing to do with “Hungarians” in Romania. Even the homeless are dressed decently and are clean , the government provides them with a lot. I think it just makes no sense to say that the streets are clean, people gather their own dogs excrement, the city is full of bike lanes, even the few gypsies I’ve seen were civilized and blend in nicely , instead my bad Romanian compatriots who were selling phones on the street corner or begging on the street stand out from the crowd.
On the last day I took the morning train to Vienna, direct trains called RailJet departurt from Keleti railway station, tickets are bought inside the station, and costs around EUR 25 for a round trip Budapest – Vienna, you have to pay in Forints (HUF) and the ticket is valid for a return trip for 3 days with any train at any time, there is no penalty as long as do not exceed those 3 days. Trains are to Western standards, moving with a cruising speed of 160 km / h, and arrive at Meidling station in Vienna, after which they continue the journey to Germany.
Vienna is at a different , higher level, more sophisticated, refined … and more expensive. It’s up there in the tops with Paris, London and other imperial capitals. Euro is the currency , so a snack street cost 5 euros , about 30-40 for dining out, traveling by metro 2.2. In the center wherever you look back you get a spectacular view, Habsburg architecture is at it’s home, its imfluence arrived at our cities of Brasov, Cluj, Sibiu (at the time when Transylvania was part of the Habsburg empire), transportation is almost perfect, the whole city is crossed by trams , both modern and restored vintage ones , metro, RER, etc etc. Do not miss many palaces of the city, among the most beautiful in the world, especially Roman-style Parliament, City Hall, the imperial palace complex, Belvedere Court palace and gardens, the pedestrian shopping streets Graben around where there is the Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral and many many many others which unfortunately I did not have time to visit in one day, but I hope that I will return there one day soon.
